Re-Emergence Outfits: RIP to Sweatsuits...?

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Not likely. With half of Alberta partially vaccinated and restrictions looking to lift by July, I’m probably not the only one ready to retire my sweatsuits and athleisure wear for a bit and dust off my gladiator sandals and prep my overdue Zara hauls for some hot patio nights. Revenge shopping in the UK and China consumed fashion news a few months ago; now it’s time for re-emergence outfits to take over the spotlight.

Borrowed from the boys, elevated by the girls and known for their preppy aesthetic, chinos and button-ups have done their rounds from a war time staple to ivy league status.

Classic and understated, they’ve become staples for women, men, streetwear, and prep style alike. Clean and versatile, this look is a good gateway from Netflix and chill to a comfortable and neat style of dress that carries an effortless look.

Whatever the season, black on black is always an appropriate ensemble. As a staple colour in our wardrobes, it adapts to our fit for girls’ brunch as quickly as it does for date night. Leather shorts having been catapulted to a favourite among fashionists, it can bring out your rocker chic with distressed band tee or stick to a classic approach with a fitted button-up. Add a bit of mystery, while keeping it clean with this seasonless tone.

As the nights get longer, our shorts will inevitably get shorter. As a long-time fan of shorts, I have good collection of timeless cuts that I turn to time and time again. And for those who are ready to go full street, this is the go-to look. Complementary designs balanced with neutral colours make this fit look less bewildering and more discerning.

Because of their impracticality and at times, restriction of movement, I usually tend to steer away from any types of dresses, but this one was too good to pass up; the colour and high slit were very persuasive.
